it took us 36 (T-H-I-R-T-Y S-I-X) hours to get from Melbourne to Belchertown, MA (via LA and Boston) where we've been staying with my sister all month. that includes a 15 hour flight from Melbourne to LA, 3 hours in Los Angeles for Luke to be processed as a resident (so long, Australia!), a 6 hour flight from LA to Boston, and then a drive through a blizzard (uhhh welcome home, right?) from Boston to Belchertown at midnight, among many other things that brought us to 36 hours of straight travel
speaking of 36 hours of travel, we left Oz on Leap Day in the morning, and arrived in MA on Leap Day in the evening. Two days of Leap Day. Weird. let's put 2012 down as officially being the longest year of our lives, shall we?
we had massive jet lag. MASSIVE. For two weeks.
we arrived on Wednesday night, and Luke began work on Monday. But did I mention the jet lag?!
our schedule that first week of work for luke (and every day thereafter, until present) has us getting up at 5:30am and driving 1hr15 from Belchertown to Framingham where Luke's job begins at 8am. I also pick him up between 5-6pm and we drive home. On a good day (minimal amount of errands to run) we get home around 8pm and have dinner. Sleep. Rinse. Repeat. Depending on what I've had to do each day (apartment hunting in Boston, car shopping, etc) I spend about 5-6 hours driving each day.
we (I) found an apartment. We signed the lease on Sunday. We move in sometime next week.
we (I) found a car. We should be getting it on Wednesday. In the meantime, we've gone through three rental cars at a kazillion dollars a week. The first was a gas guzzler (Ford Edge), so we turned him in. The second (Ford Fusion) blew a tire on the Mass Pike and nearly killed us. Back he went. Now we are driving the ugliest box I've ever seen (Kia Soul), that is a death trap on a windy day. Whatever happened to aerodynamics?!
Luke got a social security number. Because you decidedly cannot do anything in the US without a social security number.
I had to turn in my beloved NY State drivers license (boooo) and in turn they gave me a giant piece of paper to use as a temporary MA license (oh, the horror! the embarrassment!)
my parents/brother/sister-in-law/niece/nephew came to visit. They left us the stomach flu.
all of our worldly posessions finally departed Australia. on a ship. on March 22nd. We should get it by the end of May. Sad times all around on that one.

I'm sure lots more has happened, and lots more is about to happen. Very busy week ahead with my birthday (ew), a weekend trip to NYC in honor of my birthday (i'll take it!) our 1 year wedding anniversary (holy crap!) and moving day (I'm tired just thinking about it...)
Bisou.
So much un-fun stuff but at least you are hooooooome!
